Quick weekend in striped ...

No. ... not that I have spent the weekend in striped ...
Photobucket
Simply, the time goes faster than me lately, so all I could sew up today is a pair of knickers .... with stripes ....
However, all this has a story ... My dear Sarah wrote a post about her "virginity" with Anthropologie, so I also wanted to look at clothes that are in that store (I did not know either) and I was struck by a piece of swimwear .... .
Photobucket  Photobucket
Then I fell rendered to the irresistible charm of this "bikini" totally retro.
I remembered that I had very thin knit fabric in my stash, the fabric is thin and thick enough to make a bikini or a shirt, yet I am not sure that this "short" is flattering on my figure ....  my wide  waist is a problem and perhaps I may seem old-fashioned rather than retro .... so I thought I'd do a test to be sure of the effect of this short on me.
Photobucket
I found one ..... What would you call it??   Knickers??    Panties??    Culotte??    Strangely??    also in my stash ....
I have the strange habit of saving everything, even a short old goes to my stash waiting to serve as a pattern.
My son says I am a clear project for "Diogenes Syndrome"
Photobucket
Although I knew that this was simply a muslin to decide whether this type of bikini was flattering to my figure, I did not want it out the trash when it finished. So I decided to make briefs with it, all edges finished with elastic for lingerie.
Photobucket
Well ... the verdict is favorable, with the imposition of a little shortening the height of the short, it really doesn´t look good on my waist, but it is nice when it´s two inches below my waist line,  the pattern that I used is well for this project by making some alterations in it, the front looks like a short  and the back has the line cut over the buttocks, so it looks a nice ass.

    Ok! New project underway.....

From a sarong to a sundress.....

Photobucket
Welcome to the longest and mysterious night of the year, "The Night of San Juan." This night is celebrated in Spain with great joy,  people make bonfires in all the country (controlled by the police and firefighters) to celebrate the official arrival of summer.
This is coinciding with a heat wave that is passing through the islands and all the people are here in a kind of lethargy, with temperatures of 40 degrees and high humidity, sometimes breathing becomes unbearable.
Adding the fact that this week, Mena suggested seeking a garment in the closet that had long been forgotten and make a garment with it useful to give it some life ..
Photobucket
I remembered a sharong was in a corner of my closet for many years, I remember buying it because I fell in love bright colors, then I discovered that I hated the discomfort of a sharong silk (hand painted) that flowed constantly and knots that broke with the soft tissue.
So I used the technique of elastic thread in the bobbin of the machine and lengthen the stitch to make wrinkle fabric.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
I sewed together the two short sides of sharong and then stitched with elastic thread to the waist line, sewing on spiral. It's easy and fun! The adjustment is spectacular and also avoid sewing darts and zippers. Ideal!
Photobucket

When the dress was finished, I cut three inches off the hem and with this strip of fabric, I made two small fabric strips to hold the shoulders of the dress. With the rest of the strip,I made a small scarf to wear the hat.
Photobucket
Not many accessories for this outfit, just a hat to protect us from the sun, comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a desire to cool off.

This will be the perfect dress to welcome the summer .....

The dress that decided to develop

Photobucket
Lately, all dresses that I'm sewing are having an evolution .... Let me explain ....
Photobucket

At the beginning of this week I wanted to sew the dress that appeared in Burda magazine         2 / 2011.
Basically, the bodice is the same as last week, only that the armhole is cut, sleeveless.
I chose for this dress cotton fabric with black polka dots, I decided to line the bodice with white cotton because the fabric is quite thin and probably it would be transparent as well, thus the dress gaining weight and stiffness.
I decided to add a detail to the front of the body, the polka dots inspired me a false placket with ruffles.
Photobucket When the body of the dress was finished, I placed it on the mannequin and placed over a piece of fabric stuck with pins, so I thought maybe the dress needed something more fun and strident
Photobucket
PhotobucketSo a piece of black fabric was the contrast needed for a dress more "flashy".
PhotobucketPhotobucket
I joined the upper body of the dress with a skirt that appears in the same magazine by the line of the waist, I had made this skirt before ...
The last hurdle I encountered was the subject of the zippers, so I sewed two zippers, a white zipper for the top and a black zipper to the skirt, the two find themselves in the line of waist and avoids problems of white zipper on black fabric and vice versa, it was OK!
.Photobucket
And then just to find the right accessories, you know .... Accessories are very important to me ...
Photobucket
And go out and enjoy a walk with husband who is always a great incentive to use the home-sewn dresses ....

Delicate Paisley Dress in action ....

There is one thing that can make a girl very happy ... There is a new dress in my closet....

Photobucket

But ... I will start from the beginning ...
You know I wanted to add some little detail to the dress and I made a crochet lace for the neckline and armholes line ....

Photobucket     Photobucket
And then I thought the dress needed something more .... and I added a belt .....
Photobucket
And then I thought it needed something more ... so ... I searched through my sewingcave and found some old earrings and some  blue ribbon ...
PhotobucketPhotobucket

So I did a nice clip for clothing and a small bow sewn to a hair clip, now that the dress is complete ....  Hey, no! Missing accessories ...
Photobucket

Well ... now I'm ready to go ...
Photobucket
         The fun begins ....

Photobucket  This time I did an updo on my hair, I'm very proud of it on this occasion, the ladies asked me if I had gone through the hairdresser, well, I have a little secret ....
PhotobucketPhotobucket

Do you know the fable of the donkey that played the flute?? I think I will be incapable to re-do it .... I did not ask how ... it just came out ....
Photobucket
Wow! I apologize to you for this great post, if you was able to get here without yawning, you have much stamina, so I'm already to the next dress in my head.

Happy and productive week for all ....

Delicate Paisley Dress, new project

Photobucket  Wow! There are many days without posting here, the fault of life, some small worldly disasters have been proposed to make my days an obstacle race .... How can die the washer, my car and the iron in the space of a few days??
Well, I'm not going to let that interfere with my desire to sew, of course, so I'll get by this dress is on my wish list since I bought the magazine Burda February and found it Model101 has many fans among the seamstresses who want to add a retro nod to the wardrobe.
But please, let me show you the fine print on the fabric .. It's a delicate paisley in blue on white fabric makes this absolutely beautiful to the eye.

Photobucket

The dress is in the process of creation since yesterday and I must say that it is easy and quick to make, however, I will take a little longer because I have a few minor alterations on the dress.
  Photobucket
For starters, I built the top of the dress with the fabric and cotton lining sewn as if it were a single layer of tissue, it gets to the top of the dress is heavier and more stable.
The skirt of the dress is simple fabric that it does not weigh much.
I change the seam invisible zipper to the center back, as in the pattern I had closed neckline an inch all around. With this alteration, I avoid the problems of destroying the hair top ass the dress on me.
Photobucket

I'm thinking also use a crochet lace blue contrast in the neck line and sleeves and finish everything with a small bias tape of the same fabric at the edges.
Photobucket

That's it for today, it's midnight here, so play Friday night enjoy a beautiful and relaxing movie in black and white.

I hope to finish the dress morning, to will use it next Sunday in another family reunion that hope is as fun as the last  weekend.

                Have a wonderful weekend!!!!
