Accessorizing Halloween...

Ever happened to you to have an idea that grows into obsession???
For the idea of this bag, I was completely obsessed since last year at this same time... I knew exactly what I wanted to wear on Halloween night, it all started when I found a small spider brooch in a shop so I thought it would be great on a purse with a cobweb embroidered with silver thread.. but time was consumed with other things and the idea was seeping in my head until this Halloween, I could not let go again...

Photobucket

The closing portfolio was obtained from a small party bag was quite spoiled. So I cut the fabric in the seam lines and this became of pattern for my spider bag.

Photobucket

With silver thread embroidery and tons of patience... I built the spider web, if you have ever used this kind of thread to sew with it, will know is a real toothache... the thread gets tangled and breaks very easily, so you have to use very small pieces of wire strand to not end up with an attack of nerves...
Photobucket

The fabric is black velvet and two pieces of silk cord make handles. The spider is a brooch that can be removed and stored when not in use the bag to prevent spoiling rubbing it rhinestones.

Photobucket

To achieve the matching, I sewed a hat with a scrap of velvet, the pattern is obtained from an old fabric hat used for the beach, so easy... The hat is adorned with two small silver earrings in the form of spider that have a strip of years, I added a piece of chain between them.
Both, the bag and hat are lined with cotton fabric left over from a project that I don´t remember, but this photos are taken at night, I will try to do some photos with the light of day to wear a fun ourfit consists of these items and some by my closet...
And you?? Did you prepare your look for Halloween??

"Cotton Candy"

  Oh!  My vanity...
I wanted to participate again in the weekly challenge of Mena and I could not resist when discovered that the theme this time was something to use indoors, these garments aren´t intended for wear ton the street, only in the privacy of home, that means getting more unwanted compliments ... not of people who stumble on the street, but  most appreciated compliment... by people who share home...
Photobucket Photobucket

I found inspiration on the image of a pattern, Simplicity 1811, courtesy of  vintagepatterns.wikia.com although I haven´t this pattern, just looking at the image and trying to get as close to this with a pattern drawn by me... with some different details...

Naturally, this was a piece of fabric that I bought long ago, perhaps more that ten years ago...  When I bought this, I knew that it was not intended for a dress or bluse, wondeful pink silk reminds me inevitably to "cotton candy" that I ate in my childhood.. so that the scrap was sadly small and I had to adjust much to get this romantic "bed hopping" (that name so funny in Spanish).. therefore, no pockets and only hem on the sleeves are the differences with the original...
Photobucket

I have to admit that it´s really delicious feel so glamorous at home too, and this is the first of wardrobe around home, feeling moments of rest before going to bed ... wrapped in "cotton candy" is totally relaxing and predisposes my mind to rest...
And you???  Do you pamper your self before to go to sleep???

I'm obsessed lately with .... Shrugs!!

                                                              Credito image
Photobucket
                                    Shrugs!!!!

Suddenly, the fall has made a timid appearance in these  parts, days are shorter... sun plays hide and seek behind the clouds ... and there is less natural light to brighten colors, so I need to sit comfortably on a couch and enjoy some relaxing time with needles in my hands, knitting... or in this case, with crochet.

Photobucket Photobucket

The main idea is to make the body of crochet and knitting cuffs and waistband, all dependes on how the thread fester because there are only three balls in this soft cotton in my favorite color,  lavender...
Anyway, I´m really obsessed with the  red shrug in the first picture of Natalie Wood... so cute!!! and I´m in the "hunt" about red thread and beads to make one just like that...
                        And in another area...

Photobucket

Las Sunday, while hubby and me was walking in the old part of town, looking for somewhere place for photos of my last post, I got a little scare.. I came across this scene from we were walking away, my first thought when I saw the man lying on the ground and people around him was an accident!!
Fortunately a few steps later, I understood the situation... a group of Germans taking pictures of a model... perhaps to an advertisement or for any fashion magazine...

Photobucket

This was the suffering girl who endured for hours in the same position and with the same smile as the group of the magazine, taking photos, touch up her makeup and took pictures from every possible position...
Photobucket

So if you "stumble" with this image of the model in any magazine, please, I´ll love to know about it...
                           Meanwhile, happy week!!

The attempt at a 40s outfit

Well, this is the first attempt at an outfit of the 40s, it´s still not very refined and I have to work harder to get the idea that I have, however, I´m a self taught novice at this, so be patient with me, please...

Photobucket

Actually, I took two weeks to prepare fot this look, since I finished knitting the sweater here... this is the first outfit to submit with that sweater trying to emulate the fashion of the 40´s, soon there will be a second attempt with a skirt to get a look based on the 50s, as suggested my dear Irene some time ago.

  Photobucket

So this is the official presentation of this pant that I sewed for this occasion, I guess really the look of the 40s wore this legs  a little wider and this is something I´ll consider for next time that I think an article of  this kind...

Photobucket

Even watching from behind... pantas fit perfectly in the modern era.... it needs many more centimeters of clearance.

Photobucket

Although I have to admit that this pant will a lot of wear the next winter, it has great comfort, is warm, easy to use and easy to combine with others garments....

Photobucket

Photobucket

So another outfit in my wardrobe... perhaps one of the most comfortable that I´ve made so far.... so, so comfortable that I ventured...

Photobucket

And finally... a little nod to my friend Mari Cruz... of course that you can copy, that will be an honor for me... So I dedicate this look for you!

On my sewing table....

One thing that my mind inevitably associated with the early 40s, is certainly... wide -leg pants...

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Although undoubtedly... Wide leg pants bring to my mind faces as Catherine Hepburn... Rita Hayworth... or the wonderful Greta Garbo....
Nothing can be more inspiring that seeing to Catherine  knitting, to associate the sweater that I presented in the last post and one wide leg pant that is on my sewing table...

Photobucket

After I wandering for some time, I decided finally by the model of Burdastyle  2009/ August, # 105.
Fabric is a mixture of a lot of cotton and some polyester, it wrinkle so much... I hope this isn´t a problem then for the wide leg.... I don´t want to be with disheveled by the wrinkles....
Photobucket Photobucket

However, to get a closer look at the 40s, I made a small alteration on the pattern front, add a fold to give more slack and get pants miss out  the look "adjusted" on the front.
Fot this, I cut it by the center line and opened it three cms. ...  those three centimeters are the front fold.

Photobucket

Currently, this is the aspect that it presents... still needs to add the wide waistband and make hem....  I´m thinking of cutting the inside of the waistband on lining fabric, to ensure me that it does not end thickness....
And meanwhile... I have my ears "on" my sewing machine, I will imagine the accessories that I need to achieve the look of the 40s... Ohhh.... I enjoy both these ramblings...

Sweater taste 40s ... or 50s!?

To not bore you much, today I bring the sweater taht I had begun to knitting from time immemorial  (yes, I know.. I´m very slow knitting).  However, I wanted to finish this in order to use it in the early fall...

Photobucket

This has been a simple project such that you can have in your hands while watching a movie on TV ... anyway, the model has been changing while sweater progressed... if at first I thought it like half knitting and half crochet, then I thought it looked better all knitting and with a collar.

Photobucket

I think now that this sweater is very versatile... it has a slight taste of the sweaters  ´40s, and I think can get this look if I sew a camel color pants like those pants worn by women in this decade, high waist and wide leg, perhaps with a turn out at the hem... and Oxford shoes... Oh, yeah.. this would be perfect!!

  Photobucket

Although I think it also can look good with a slight taste of the 50s , if I sew a skirt with the style of this decade , also camel color... and shoes with thin heels... Oh... Decisions, decisions....

SSS´11 Final week.

                          Monday
I´m very rushed... My mother tells that when she went to a store with me very little, and bought a dress for me... I always left the store wearing my new dress.. and my mother had to keep in a bag the clothes that I wore when entered the store.
I sewed this skirt Sunday in the afternoon and I was wearing it on Monday.

"Dreams Lavender" Dress

Indeed, I showed a photo taken from my balcony at half past six in the morning on my last post  and say that this picture inspired me to a new project.  First of all, I want to apologize for the unintentional kick that I gave the English language in the commentary on that photo of sunrise...  really it was the dawn, not the sunset as I did understand to all.... sorry!!
That said, I want to congratulate to Shannon, for her mental acuity to discover that was beautiful colors of the photo where I had found inspiration for my new proyect.

Photobucket Photobucket

  This model is a pattern from Burda Style, May/ 2011 ,# 128.
Actually it´s a nice model and I know many of us have it on our wish list... just the back of the model is not highly desired by may of us.
So I would not resign and made some alterations in the pattern to adjust the back like a normal dress and get the dress of my dreams lavender...
I know that some seamstresses who I admire deeply as Ana Jan Jan (to take an example) made this dress and also implemented changes in the pattern to do the same.
Photobucket Photobucket

So much better.... the original pattern shows a seam on the center back taht I now become a two darts, eliminating the seam...
Notice that the camera gets different shades of purple color as the dress I made photos inside or outside... I have  to say that the original color is showing exterior photos, the other show color distorted by the flash.

Photobucket

And of course, the focus and reason for my desire is the beautiful collar of this dress...
 white, Yeah!!!!
I could not think of this dress without a few sprigs of lavender as the centerpiece of the entir outfit, so I had to leave a "footprint" of this design in the dress...

I painted the lavender bouquet design on the collar, with textile paint first and then I embroidered the contour of the bows to highlight them and small lavender flowers with knot stitch, I´m very excited about the result.  If you want paint fabrics, here´s a tutorial.
This dress is part of a trilogy that focuses on the design, so is the dress "Lavender Dreams"...

Photobucket Photobucket

Tights matching with that look the same reason and I painted some time ago, if you want to try the same... here´s a tutorial.

And finally the fascinator I made some time ago and that was the beginning of this trilogy to complete this outfit   "Lavender Dreams" , if you want to know how to make one like it, here´s a tutorial.

So, we´re ready to go out and celebrate a beautiful weekend...

Photobucket

  And extend it up...

   Late into the night...
                                                Happy weekend, Ladies!!
